Court uses at the Nakifuma Court taking part in court initiatives sensitization
Hundreds of court users on Friday (February 14, 2020) turned up at Nakifuuma Magistrate Court to take part in a court initiatives sensitization.
Many peered through the windows as others squeezed into the door to listen to the Resident Magistrate, HW Esther Nahirya and Principal Communications Officer, Mr Solomon Muyita; enlighten them on the different court procedures and innovations such as Plea Bargaining, Mediation and Small Claims Procedure.
HW Nahirya shared that she has an open door policy adding that she was ready to interact with court on matters affecting justice at the court.
The Public Relations and Communications team were on hand to distribute an assortment of brochures detailing how the different innovations work and offer any additional explanations.
After the sensitization, there was a question and answer session, where court users freely expressed themselves.
HW Nahirya and Mr Muyita answered court users on the different matters. The court users appreciated the candid discussion and described it as the first of its kind.
They asked for more interactions saying it was important for such campaigns to reach even communities. They equally appealed to the courts to hold joint sensitization drives with frontline Justice Law and Order Sector institutions such as police.
Mr Shaban Kasirye, one of the court users, said if this is done, it will minimize incidents of mob justice and avoid lawlessness.
It was suggested that mass sensitization to avoid lawlessness and mob justice.
HW Nahirya said this will be explored but equally urged the residents to maintain law and order. She urged the court users to turn up on February 27, 2020 for the launch of Small Claims Procedure at the court, a quick access to justice in commercial disputes below Shs 10m.
A vote of thanks was made by Mr Habib Ssemakula who commended the court for the interaction saying they had benefited a lot and now understood how court processes work and vowed not to be victims unscrupulous characters again.
